Make Last Minute Memorial Day Plans
Memorial Day weekend serves a dual purpose in American culture. Primarily, It’s a day that we all take a moment to remember those who have served our country. And, to many, it’s the weekend that kicks off the summer. Even though we still have a full month before summer officially begins, Memorial Day weekend is the first weekend after school lets out and kids are looking for something fun to do. So, if you haven’t made any memorial day plans yet. Here are a few ideas.
Plan a Picnic
The weather is warm and sunny! Taking your family to a park to enjoy a small picnic is a great way to enjoy Memorial Day. You can plan to spend a day this weekend at Veterans Park & Athletic Complex. It is a huge facility with parks, several fields for soccer and other sports, and a covered pavilion with a kitchen. Most importantly, there is an amazing military memorial with awe-inspiring statues. You and your family can enjoy a picnic on the grounds and then stroll through the park to take in a little military history.
Host a Backyard Barbecue
A common activity for memorial day is a backyard cookout. It’s an easy gathering to put together. All you need is a grill master, drinks on ice, and a few lawn games to make it a success. Send out invitations with a request for side dishes to make it even easier to plan. Make a Hot Dog Bar
Even less fuss than planning a backyard barbecue is hosting a hot dog bar. You don’t need a lot of grill skills to make the perfect hot dog. Instead of requesting side dishes from your guests, you can ask them each to bring a unique topping to add to your hot dog bar. If it’s a private event for you and your family, add something fun to the menu by making one of these fun toppings in addition to the usual condiments like ketchup, mustard, and relish.
