August 1st, 2022 by

The 2022 Honda Civic has been named the 2022 North American Car of the Year for an impressive third time since the award’s inception. The new model, redesigned from the ground up, features a more sleek design with top-level interior space and comfort. Also included in the 2022 Civic are a host of new driver-assistive, safety, and connectivity technologies.

The Criteria

The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year awards honor vehicles that excel in innovation, design, performance, technology, safety features, driver satisfaction, and value. Its judges are professional automotive journalists who work for television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and industry websites.

Proven Track Record

With previous winnings in 2006 for its 8th generation model and in 2016 when the 10th-generation was introduced, the Civic continues a long tradition of Honda excellence. The automaker has claimed a title in at least one category four out of the last six years, including 2017 for the Honda Ridgeline and 2018 for the Honda Accord.

The Winner

The Honda Civic was fully redesigned for 2022. It received a more sleek and sporty exterior design and a more rigid body structure. Inside you’ll find a fresh, modern cabin with more comfortable front seats and extra rear legroom. A new touchscreen infotainment system comes standard, with an option to upgrade to a larger screen. Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® are standard, with the potential for upgrades to wireless connectivity, in-dash navigation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a Bose® stereo system.

Driver-Assistance and Safety

The 2022 Civic offers a whole host of driver-assistance and safety features that come standard:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Rear seat reminder

The Options

The newly-designed Civic comes in a sedan and hatchback body style, each available in four trim levels. The two lower levels come with a 158-horsepower four-cylinder engine, while the EX and Touring models boast a 180-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. All are front-wheel drive and have a standard continuously variable automatic transmission (with a six-speed manual available in both hatchback Sport models).

The 2022 Civic is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class. Its excellent road grip, responsive steering, and balanced ride make it a pleasure to drive. If you’re in the market for an award-winning compact car, we highly recommend this one.
